ICR to Hold Civil Defence Mock Drill on August 8

ITANAGAR, August 4:

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), has announced that a Civil Defence Mock Drill will be conducted across the capital region on Saturday, August 8, 2026, to strengthen emergency preparedness and civil defence response.

The mock drill will be held from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar, serving as the main venue.

The exercise is aimed at testing the coordination and readiness of government departments, security agencies, emergency services and the public during emergency situations.

As part of the drill, an air raid siren will sound across the ICR at 8:00 PM for about two minutes. A city-wide blackout will then be observed from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM.

During the blackout, residents have been requested to switch off all lights, including inverter and rechargeable lights, close curtains and windows to prevent light from being visible outside, and remain indoors while staying calm.

Police and Fire Service vehicles, along with the Itanagar Smart City public address system, will simultaneously sound sirens as part of the exercise.

Traffic diversions and movement restrictions may also be imposed, and the public has been urged to cooperate with the authorities.

The administration has clarified that essential services, including hospitals, police establishments, emergency services and the Control Room, will remain exempted from the blackout to ensure uninterrupted operations.

The District Administration has appealed to residents, commercial establishments, educational institutions, market associations, civil society organisations and the media to extend full cooperation for the successful conduct of the mock drill.

Citizens have also been advised not to spread rumours or misinformation on social media and to rely only on official updates issued by the District Administration.

For any clarification or emergency assistance, the administration has released the following helpline numbers:

ADC (HQ): +91 94360 45552

DDMO, ICR: +91 87873 36331
