Heritage Care Foundation Launched to Restore Ziro's Paddy Fields

ZIRO, July 31: 

In a major step towards preserving Ziro's iconic Apatani landscape, the Heritage Care Foundation was officially launched on Saturday by Superintendent of Police (SP) Ziro, Shri Keni Bagra.

The initiative comes at a time when the gradual abandonment of traditional paddy fields has emerged as a growing concern, threatening both the ecological balance and the cultural heritage of the Ziro Valley, which is renowned for its centuries-old Apatani wet rice cultivation system.

The newly formed foundation aims to adopt abandoned paddy fields and restore them to cultivation. 

By bringing these fields back into productive use, the initiative seeks to revive the valley's distinctive agricultural landscape, conserve its biodiversity, and safeguard an important part of the Apatani community's cultural identity.

Addressing the gathering, SP Shri Keni Bagra urged citizens to be mindful of development activities that could damage the environment. 

He called on people to promote sustainable development and work collectively to preserve Ziro's pristine natural beauty for future generations.

He also spoke of his personal connection with the valley, saying he has always admired Ziro for its breathtaking scenery, rich traditions, and harmonious relationship between people and nature. 

Reaffirming his commitment to conservation, Bagra said protecting the valley's unique landscape is a shared responsibility.

The launch of the Heritage Care Foundation is expected to encourage community participation in restoring abandoned paddy fields while reinforcing ongoing efforts to protect one of Arunachal Pradesh's most treasured cultural and ecological landscapes.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
