Dasanglu Pul Remembers Kalikho Pul on 10th Death Anniversary
ITANAGAR, August 9:
Minister Dasanglu Pul on Sunday remembered her late husband and former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on his 10th death anniversary, recalling his journey from humble beginnings to the highest political office in the state and his commitment to people living in remote areas.
In a message marking the solemn anniversary, Dasanglu Pul said that although ten years had passed since Kalikho Pul's death, the sense of loss remained as profound as it had been on the day he died.
She remembered him not only as a former Chief Minister but also as a devoted husband, loving father, mentor and a source of strength for the family.
According to Dasanglu Pul, Kalikho Pul's political journey was shaped by the struggles and aspirations of ordinary people.
She said he rose from humble beginnings to the state's highest office while remaining conscious of the challenges faced by people living in the farthest and most remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
She recalled his belief that governance should reach people at the margins and said he travelled to remote areas, listened to people whose concerns often remained unheard and worked to create opportunities for those who needed them most.
“Behind the public figure was a deeply compassionate man,” Dasanglu Pul said in her tribute, describing him as a person whose humility, generosity and concern for people's welfare earned him a special place in the hearts of many.
From humble beginnings to Chief Minister
Kalikho Pul, who hailed from Hawai in present-day Anjaw district, had an unconventional journey into politics.
Before entering public life, he worked as a carpenter and also served as a school chowkidar. He later entered electoral politics and was elected from the Hayuliang constituency.
He went on to hold several ministerial responsibilities in the Arunachal Pradesh government, including portfolios related to finance, power, land management, rural works and health.
He was particularly associated with the state's finance portfolio during different periods of his political career.
In February 2016, Kalikho Pul became the eighth Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, serving during a period of intense political uncertainty in the state.
His tenure lasted only a few months before the Supreme Court's July 2016 judgment led to the restoration of the earlier political arrangement.
His death on August 9, 2016, at the age of 47 brought widespread reactions across Arunachal Pradesh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences at the time, saying that Pul's service to Arunachal Pradesh would be remembered.
In Sunday's tribute, Dasanglu Pul said Kalikho Pul's physical presence may be gone, but his legacy continues through the people whose lives he touched.
She linked that legacy to the continuing aspirations for a stronger, more compassionate and united Arunachal Pradesh, saying that his ideals continue to inspire people across the state.
She also expressed pride and gratitude for the life he lived and the values he represented, while reaffirming her commitment to carrying forward what she described as his sincerity, courage and dedication to public service.
The minister concluded her tribute by praying for his soul to rest in eternal peace and expressing hope that his life and ideals would continue to inspire future generations of Arunachalees.
