CM Khandu Says Army Securing Taksing Border

ITANAGAR, Aug 7: 

Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday dismissed speculation over an alleged Chinese incursion in the Taksing sector of Upper Subansiri district, saying he does not believe such an incident has taken place.

Responding to viral photographs and videos circulating on social media, Khandu said the Indian Army is deployed in the area and is effectively guarding the country's borders.

"I don't think such incursions have happened. Our Indian Army is deployed there and is safely guarding our territory," the Chief Minister told reporters.

He said the state government will verify the facts before making any further comments on the matter.

Khandu also informed that he has invited representatives of the Nah Welfare Society (NWS) for a meeting. 

He added that the government will seek clarification from the Indian Army over reports claiming that Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) personnel entered parts of the Taksing area.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the Army is performing its duty of protecting Indian territory. He said the government will establish the facts before drawing any conclusions.

The issue came to light after the Nah Welfare Society raised concerns over alleged PLA activities near Taksing along the India-China border.

According to local residents, the photographs and videos circulating on social media, showing an interaction between Indian Army personnel and Chinese PLA soldiers, were reportedly taken last week.

The Nah Welfare Society has alleged that PLA activities near Taksing have increased over the past 10 to 15 years. 

It claimed that Chinese military infrastructure and border outposts have gradually advanced towards several locations close to the frontier.

The state government is expected to discuss the matter with the Nah Welfare Society and seek inputs from the Indian Army before issuing any official statement on the claims.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. NNMR Seeks Action Against Yachuli MLA Over Podum Remarks

 ITANAGAR, September 15: The Nyishi Nyidung Mwngjwng Rallung (NNMR) has submitted a complaint to the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly seeking action against Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung over remarks concerning the traditional Nyishi Podum/Byopia headgear. In its representation dated September 14, 2026, the organisation alleged that Tatung made a “misleading” statement about the origin and development of the traditional headgear during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on March 11, 2025. According to the complaint, Tatung had questioned the originality of the traditional Podum and suggested that the modern artificial version was started by a Christian man.
