Chimpu Road Collapse Kills One, Injures Two

 


ITANAGAR, Aug 7:

A roadside concrete slab near the New Dumping Zone, close to Westin Resort in Chimpu, Itanagar, collapsed on August 7 at around 6:40 pm, killing one person and injuring two others.

The incident triggered an intensive rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Itanagar, along with the 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Hollongi.

Rescue teams faced challenging conditions as they worked beneath heavy concrete debris and unstable soil to reach the victims. The operation continued for several hours before the trapped victim was recovered.

The rescue teams also retrieved a scooter that had been buried beneath the collapsed structure. The entire recovery operation was carried out in the presence of the deceased's grieving family.

The deceased was identified as Tama Baja, 27, son of Shri Marpu Baja, a resident of Don village under Raga in Kamle district, Arunachal Pradesh. He was reportedly residing at Chandranagar in Itanagar.

The two injured persons were identified as Kapwang Arangham, 31, son of Shri Winson Arangham, a resident of Kanubari in Longding district and presently residing at Jullong, Itanagar.

The other injured person was identified as Ajay Jerang, 34, son of Shri Tamu Jerang, a resident of Rumgong in Siang district and presently residing at H-Sector, Itanagar.

Both injured persons were shifted to a medical facility for necessary examination and treatment. The incident has also raised concerns over possible water-induced soil erosion and the stability of roadside structures in the area.
