Arunachal Teams Shine at RFC India 2026

GOA, Aug. 1: 

Arunachal Pradesh made a powerful statement on India's off-road motorsport stage, securing two podium finishes at the 12th Rainforest Challenge (RFC) India 2026, held in Goa from July 26 to August 1.

Leading the celebrations was Team Moca, which emerged as the champion in the 4x4 Extreme category. Driver Ujjal Namshum and co-driver Chetthan Chengappa delivered an outstanding performance throughout the week-long competition, overcoming some of the country's most demanding off-road obstacles with exceptional driving skills, precision, and teamwork.

Adding to the state's success, Team X-treme Arunachal secured second place in the highly competitive 4x4 Stock category. 

The team, comprising driver Naku Hage Chada and co-driver Loda Punyo, impressed judges with their consistency and resilience in one of the toughest divisions of the championship.

The 4x4 Stock category challenged competitors with steep hill climbs, deep mud pits, water crossings, technical recovery sections, and endurance-based obstacle courses, testing both the capability of the vehicles and the coordination between drivers and co-drivers.

The impressive double podium finish reflects the rapid rise of Arunachal Pradesh in India's off-road motorsport scene and showcases the growing strength of Northeast teams in one of the country's most physically and technically demanding competitions.

Organised by Cougar Motorsport, the 12th edition of RFC India is regarded as India's toughest and most prestigious off-road motorsport competition. 

Ranked among the world's Top 10 toughest motor races, the event is part of the globally renowned Rainforest Challenge series and attracts elite off-road competitors from across the country.

This year's championship featured multiple categories, including 4x4 Extreme, 4x4 Modified, and 4x4 Stock, with teams competing across specially designed stages that tested precision driving, vehicle recovery, navigation, endurance, and teamwork under extreme terrain conditions.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
