AAPSU Warns Statewide Bandh Over 80:20 Job Reservation

ITANAGAR, August 10: 

The High Power Committee (HPC) on the proposed 80:20 job reservation ratio in Arunachal Pradesh concluded its final meeting on Monday at around 2 PM.

The meeting saw the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) push for changes to the Recruitment Rules to protect employment opportunities for local candidates.

AAPSU proposed making a Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) and APST status mandatory for candidates applying for government jobs in Arunachal Pradesh.

It also suggested that applicants should be able to speak at least one local dialect or language of an APST tribe.

According to AAPSU, the HPC has accepted all of its suggestions in toto. The recommendations are expected to be submitted to the Arunachal Pradesh government by Monday evening.

However, the students’ body has now set a deadline for the state government to act on the recommendations.

An AAPSU team led by President Meje Taku, General Secretary Tator Mato Bui and the CEM has urged the government headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu to convene a Cabinet meeting before August 15.

AAPSU has demanded that the government announce its decision on the issue on August 15, 2026.

The students’ body has warned that failure to meet the deadline will trigger a statewide democratic movement.

As part of the proposed agitation, AAPSU has announced a 12-hour Arunachal Pradesh statewide bandh on August 17, 2026, if the government fails to make the announcement by August 15.

The warning puts the state government under pressure to take a final decision on the 80:20 job reservation issue before the August 15 deadline.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
