AAPSU Heads to Taksing Amid Incursion Concerns

ITANAGAR, Aug 13:

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Thursday flagged off its “Taksing Chalo, Bharat Bachao” yatra, with a team led by General Secretary Mato Bui heading towards Taksing in Upper Subansiri district.

AAPSU President Meje Taku flagged off the team at the NEFA Club, AAPSU office, before handing over the Indian National Flag to Mato Bui for hoisting at Taksing on August 15, 2026.

The AAPSU flag was also handed over to team members, who will hoist it at Taksing alongside the national flag on Independence Day.

The two-day visit comes amid concerns over reports of an alleged Chinese incursion near the India-China border in the Taksing area.

During the visit, the AAPSU team is expected to meet local stakeholders and residents and convey a message of national unity and solidarity with people living in the frontier region.

The planned Independence Day flag hoisting is being seen as a symbolic expression of India’s sovereignty and AAPSU’s solidarity with residents of the strategically important border area.

The yatra carries the slogans “Taksing Chalo, Bharat Bachao” and “Seema Majboot, Bharat Surakshit,” highlighting AAPSU’s call for stronger and more secure border areas.

The initiative also aims to draw attention to the need for better infrastructure, connectivity and development in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote frontier regions.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
