Suspected Drug Peddler Arrested, 11.14g Heroin Seized in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, June 7:

Itanagar, July 7: Continuing its drive against drug trafficking, the Special Action Team (SAT) of Capital Police Itanagar arrested a suspected drug peddler during a targeted operation near the bridge connecting Police Colony, Vivek Vihar, and Statistics Colony on July 6.

Acting on specific intelligence, the operation was led by SI Padam Padi along with members of the SAT under the supervision of DySP (HQ) Shri Chamrak Arun, who heads the Special Action Team.

During the search, police recovered 10 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 11.14 grams, including the weight of the containers. 

Officers also seized four empty plastic vials, a syringe, a green lighter, packing materials, and an OPPO F21 mobile phone. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspected heroin was allegedly procured from the Naharlagun area. Police have launched follow-up operations to identify and apprehend others believed to be involved in the drug supply network.

A case has been registered at Itanagar Police Station under ITA PS Case No. 182/2026 under Sections 21(a), 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.

The search and seizure were conducted in the presence of SDPO Itanagar Shri Chera Saban, a Gazetted Officer, along with two independent witnesses, in compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act. 

The entire operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SP Capital Itanagar Shri Jummar Basar.

Reaffirming its commitment to eliminating narcotics from the Capital Region, Capital Police urged citizens to report information related to drug trafficking or other illegal activities through its dedicated helpline numbers or the official Capital Police Itanagar Facebook page, stressing that public cooperation is vital in building a drug-free society.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
