Siang Police Bust Drug Network, Three Arrested

BOLENG, July 11: 

Siang District Police, in coordination with the West Siang Anti-Drug Squad (ADS), busted an alleged drug network during a late-night operation in Boleng on July 9. 

Three persons, including an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) personnel and two women from West Siang district, were arrested.

The operation was conducted as part of the district police's sustained crackdown against drug trafficking. It was carried out under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police J. K. Lego, IPS, and the direct guidance of SDPO Y. Yangi.

The police team was led by Officer-in-Charge of Boleng Police Station, SI T. Padung, along with SI M. Karlo, SI M. Nobeng, ASI L. Karga, L/Ct. P. Nyorak, Ct. M. Riba, Ct. K. Jamoh, Ct. K. Likar, Ct. Y. Likar and Ct. B. Tapen.

According to police, the operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence that certain individuals had travelled from Aalo to Boleng to collect narcotic substances.

Acting on the input, the team set up strategic naka checking points and intercepted the suspects.

To ensure strict compliance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the search and seizure were conducted in the presence of Circle Officer-cum-Executive Magistrate, Boleng, Miss Niyang Pertin, along with an independent witness.

During the operation, police recovered 10.74 grams of suspected heroin (brown sugar), 1.22 grams of suspected opium, 11 OST (Bupet-N) tablets and ₹12,030 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking.

A case has been registered at Boleng Police Station under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is in progress.

Siang Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations across the district and appealed to the public to share credible information on illegal narcotics activities to help protect the youth from the menace of drug abuse.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
