RGURSF, AAPSU Seek Fair APPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment

The Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars' Forum (RGURSF), with the support of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), on Tuesday, has submitted a joint memorandum to the Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), Prof. Pradip Lingfa, urging the commission to review the recruitment process for the 145 Assistant Professor posts to ensure greater fairness, transparency, inclusivity, and merit-based selection.

The memorandum comes in response to concerns raised by several Ph.D. scholars, NET-qualified candidates, and aspiring Assistant Professors from different disciplines over the existing shortlisting criteria and selection procedure. According to RGURSF, numerous representations were received from candidates who expressed apprehensions about the current recruitment process.

To address these concerns, RGURSF convened an urgent grievance hearing and dialogue session where research scholars and teaching aspirants discussed the issues in detail and arrived at a collective consensus. Based on the feedback received during the deliberations, the forum, with the support and guidance of AAPSU, prepared and submitted the memorandum requesting the APPSC to revisit certain provisions of the recruitment process.

Among the key demands, RGURSF sought reconsideration of the existing 1:3 interview shortlisting ratio, stating that the UGC Regulations, 2018 do not prescribe such a mandatory ratio. The forum maintained that adopting a broader shortlisting ratio would allow more deserving candidates an opportunity to compete in the interview stage and promote a more inclusive selection process.

The memorandum also called for the introduction of a fair and scientific normalization mechanism for candidates graduating from universities that follow different examination systems, including semester and annual patterns. RGURSF stated that such a system would ensure equitable assessment of academic performance and create a level playing field for all applicants.

In addition, the forum urged the APPSC to constitute confidential interview boards comprising subject experts from outside Arunachal Pradesh. According to the memorandum, the inclusion of external experts would strengthen transparency, impartiality, and credibility while enhancing public confidence in the recruitment process.

RGURSF clarified that the appeal is not intended to benefit any individual or particular group but is aimed at safeguarding the principles of fairness, transparency, equal opportunity, and academic excellence in the recruitment of Assistant Professors across the state.

The forum also expressed its gratitude to AAPSU, research scholars, teaching aspirants, student organizations, and all those who extended their support to the initiative. It stated that the collective participation of the academic community has strengthened their efforts to advocate for a recruitment process that is fair, transparent, inclusive, and truly merit-based.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
