POCSO Convict Escapes from Aalo Sub-Jail, Hunt Underway

AALO, July 7:

An intensive manhunt has been launched after a 29-year-old convict escaped from the Aalo Sub-Jail in on Monday evening. 

The prisoner, identified as Dorik Doji of Doji Jeko village, was serving a five-year sentence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act when he allegedly fled the jail at around 6:37 pm.

Following the escape, police registered a fresh case under Sections 261, 262 and 324(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), issued a lookout notice and alerted all police stations, outposts and check gates to intensify surveillance. 

Superintendent of Police, Aalo, Kardak Riba, said search teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the fugitive at the earliest.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Doji allegedly cut through an old ventilator in his cell before escaping through the jail compound gate. 

The incident reportedly occurred after the sentry guard commander briefly stepped away to collect dinner and accidentally left the gate unlocked.

CCTV footage is said to have captured the convict leaving the prison premises.

Doji had been lodged in the sub-jail for more than six months after being convicted under the POCSO Act. 

He is also facing trial in two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. 

Police described him as being of medium build with a wheatish complexion and appealed to the public to immediately share any information about his whereabouts with the nearest police station.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
