POCSO Convict Dorik Doji Surrenders; Friend Arrested for Aiding Escape

AALO, July 13: 

Dorik Doji, a 29 year old convict under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act who escaped from the Aalo Sub-Jail last week, surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Aalo on Monday, bringing an end to a days-long manhunt.

Confirming the development, West Siang Superintendent of Police Kardak Riba said Doji surrendered at around 4 pm after sustained efforts by the police, who had remained in constant touch with his family members and persuaded him to return and face the law.

In connection with the jailbreak, police have arrested Doji's childhood friend, Tara Rai, for allegedly assisting him in evading arrest. 

According to the police, Rai frequently visited Doji during his time in jail and is accused of facilitating his escape by providing him with a scooter and fuel, allowing him to flee after breaking out of custody.

SP Riba said Doji, who is also facing trial in two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, allegedly carried an air gun while on the run.

 Investigators believe he later sold the weapon for ₹10,000 somewhere between Mebo and Roing to fund his travel and food expenses. Police are currently working to identify and trace the person who purchased the air gun.

During his escape, Doji allegedly changed the colour of the scooter to avoid detection, travelled as far as Namsai, spent nights in paddy fields, and concealed his identity by wearing a face mask while eating at roadside eateries, the SP said.

A day before surrendering, Doji released a series of voice recordings on social media in which he claimed he had been wrongly convicted under the POCSO Act. 

He alleged that there was no medical or DNA evidence linking him to the offence, questioned the prosecution's case, and claimed that certain POCSO cases were being misused. He also appealed to the public not to judge him without examining the court records.

However, police have not commented on the substance of Doji's allegations, and his conviction under the POCSO Act remains legally in force.

Further investigation into the jailbreak, the alleged assistance provided during his escape, and the sale of the air gun is ongoing.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
