Nyishi Bodies Donate ₹20 Lakh for Keyi Panyor Flood Relief

YAZALI, July 12: 

Demonstrating solidarity with the victims of the devastating flash floods that struck Keyi Panyor district last month, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), along with the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) and the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA), on Sunday handed over ₹20 lakh as humanitarian financial assistance to the Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor.

The financial assistance has been provided as interim relief for families affected by the flash floods in Possa and Potin, where widespread destruction left hundreds of residents grappling with the loss of homes, livelihoods and essential infrastructure.

The unprecedented flash flood that hit the district on June 24 triggered massive devastation, washing away houses, damaging roads and bridges, disrupting connectivity and causing extensive losses to public and private property. 

The disaster claimed the lives of five people, of which, one person remains missing, making it one of the worst natural calamities witnessed in the district in recent years.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the district administration, supported by the state government, launched large-scale rescue and relief operations. 

Several individuals, community-based organisations, NGOs and well-wishers have since come forward with financial contributions worth lakhs of rupees under the MLA's flood relief donation drive, reflecting an overwhelming spirit of public support for the affected families.

Last week, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs visited the flood-ravaged areas of Keyi Panyor to assess the extent of damage to infrastructure, public assets and private properties. 

The assessment is expected to facilitate further assistance from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

While handing over the relief amount, the Nyishi organizations reaffirmed their commitment to standing with the affected communities during this difficult period. 

They expressed hope that the contribution would help meet the immediate needs of the victims and support the district administration's ongoing rehabilitation efforts.

The Deputy Commissioner, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, IAS, acknowledged the humanitarian gesture and appreciated the three organizations for extending timely assistance to families affected by the disaster.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
