New APSSB Advertisement Rekindles 80:20 Debate

ITANAGAR, July 10: 

A fresh notification issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) has reignited the ongoing debate over the State's 80:20 recruitment ratio, after four Lower Division Clerk (LDC) vacancies under the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Kameng, were advertised entirely under the Unreserved (UR) category.

The addendum, issued on July 9 in continuation of Advertisement No. 05/2026 for the Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CHSLE)-2026, notified four LDC posts carrying Pay Level-4 (₹25,000–81,100). 

The vacancy chart shows zero posts reserved for APST candidates, while all four posts have been classified as UR.

The notification has sparked fresh debate on social media and among sections of the public, with many questioning the continuation of the 80:20 recruitment policy and expressing concern over the absence of APST-reserved vacancies in the latest recruitment.

The issue has remained under public scrutiny in recent months, with organisations such as the Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF) and the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) repeatedly demanding the scrapping of the 80:20 recruitment ratio. 

They have also called for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and a valid Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) to be made mandatory eligibility criteria for all recruitments conducted by the APPSC and APSSB.

Notably, the AFTF had announced a mega rally on July 5, prior to the release of the latest APSSB notification. 

The rally is scheduled to be held on July 11 in Itanagar to press for the immediate abolition of the existing recruitment policy.

The latest APSSB advertisement is expected to further intensify the ongoing public debate ahead of the proposed rally, with the 80:20 recruitment policy once again emerging as a major issue in the State.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
