Kento Jini seeks BRO for ALB Strategic Road project

ITANAGAR, July 3: 

Arunachal Pradesh Minister for Law, Legislative and Justice, Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs, Kento Jini, has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to entrust the implementation and maintenance of the Akajan–Likabali–Bame (ALB) Strategic Road Project to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

In a letter dated July 2, Jini thanked the Government of India for declaring the Akajan–Likabali–Bame Road a Strategic Road under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. 

He said the decision reflects the Centre's commitment to strengthening border infrastructure and would significantly boost the socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh's seven border districts.

The minister pointed out that the road was originally constructed, developed and maintained by the BRO before its implementation was transferred to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) during 2014-15. 

He said BRO's proven expertise and experience in executing projects in difficult border terrain make it the most suitable agency for the strategic corridor.

Jini stated that handing the project back to the BRO would ensure faster execution, superior construction quality and long-term maintenance. He added that the move would also strengthen national security while ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and socio-economic benefits for the people living in the frontier districts.

The minister further observed that the Akajan–Likabali–Bame corridor is of immense strategic importance for both defence logistics and civilian connectivity. He said timely completion of the project is essential for the state's long-term infrastructure development and border preparedness.

Concluding his appeal, Jini requested Gadkari to intervene and designate the BRO as both the implementing and maintenance agency for the project. He expressed confidence that the decision would help ensure the timely completion of one of Arunachal Pradesh's most strategically significant road projects.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
