SEPPA, July 8: 

Deputy Commissioner of East Kameng, Ms. Yashaswini B, IAS, on Wednesday felicitated professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Laki Weshi Sangno with a Commendation Certificate at her office chamber in Seppa.

A native of Weshi Village under Pakoti Circle in East Kameng district, Laki Weshi Sangno is the son of Smti. Nani Weshi Sangno and Late Darmang Weshi Sangno. 

Over the years, he has established himself as one of the country's most accomplished MMA athletes through a series of impressive performances at the state, national and international levels.

His achievements include a silver medal at the Jarbom Gamlin State-Level Boxing Championship in 2018, gold and bronze medals at the National Championships in 2021, a silver medal at the National Championships in 2022, and a silver medal at the Asian MMA Championship the same year. In 2023, he added a bronze medal at the World Championship to his growing list of accomplishments.

Laki created history in 2025 by becoming the first Indian to win two gold medals at the Bali Open Grappling Championship. 

He scripted another milestone in 2026 by becoming the first fighter from Arunachal Pradesh to register a professional MMA victory in Indonesia after defeating local fighter Namr Arad via a first-round Technical Knockout (TKO) at Canggu Fight Night 39.

Congratulating the young athlete, Deputy Commissioner Yashaswini B praised his unwavering dedication, discipline and perseverance, noting that his achievements have brought immense pride to East Kameng district and Arunachal Pradesh. 

She expressed confidence that his continued success would inspire aspiring mixed martial artists and young sportspersons across the state while strengthening Arunachal Pradesh's presence on the international combat sports stage.

She also conveyed her best wishes for his future competitions and expressed hope that he would continue to scale greater heights, bringing further laurels to both Arunachal Pradesh and the nation.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
