DHTE Assures Scholarship Release in 10 Days

ITANAGAR, July 9: 

The Directorate of Higher & Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has assured that the pending Post Matric Scholarship dues for the remaining eligible students will be disbursed within 10 working days.

The assurance came on Thursday following a protest staged outside the Directorate office in Itanagar by aggrieved students led by activist Charpo Taffo Sonam. 

The students had demanded the immediate release of scholarship funds, citing prolonged delays that had affected their education and finances.

In an official notice dated July 9, 2026, the Directorate stated that the due amount of the Post Matric Scholarship would be released to the remaining beneficiaries within the stipulated timeframe.

The Directorate's assurance drew a mixed reaction from the students. 

While many welcomed the commitment to release the pending scholarship dues within 10 working days, they also demanded greater accountability from the department over the recurring delays in scholarship disbursement. 

The protesters urged the authorities to establish a timely and transparent mechanism to ensure students do not have to face the same uncertainty every year.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
