Central Team Surveys Flood Damage in Siang Districts

PASIGHAT, July 9: 

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday visited flood-affected areas in East Siang and Lower Siang districts to assess the extent of damage caused by the recent floods and evaluate the need for additional financial assistance from the Centre.

The team, led by MHA Joint Secretary Nishtha Tiwari, was accompanied by Arunachal Pradesh Disaster Management Secretary Dani Salu during the day-long inspection.

The delegation first visited the integrated farm of Smti. Olik Tapok Taloh at Ledum village, where floodwaters had caused extensive damage to agricultural land and farm infrastructure. 

The team then inspected Rema Bridge under Korang Circle, Tene Bridge under Koyu Circle in Lower Siang district, and Remi Bridge in East Siang district to examine the impact of the floods on critical roads and public infrastructure.

Officials from the district administration and various line departments briefed the visiting team on the scale of destruction, the relief and restoration work carried out so far, and the immediate as well as long-term rehabilitation needs. 

The team also interacted with affected residents, PRI members and farmers to understand the hardships faced by local communities after the floods.

The inspection was attended by Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering, Nari-Koyu MLA Tojir Kadu, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Ruth Tabing Boko, East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, IAS. 

They were also joined by Ruksin Additional Deputy Commissioner, officials from various departments, PRI representatives, Gaon Burahs and other government officials.

Commending the district administration and line departments for their swift rescue, relief and restoration efforts despite challenging weather conditions, the IMCT said its findings would be compiled into a detailed report for the Government of India. 

The report will help determine the requirement for additional Central assistance for relief, restoration and reconstruction in the affected districts.

The visit reflects the Centre's continued effort, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh Government, to support flood-affected communities and strengthen disaster-resilient infrastructure in vulnerable areas.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
