Arunachal Govt Forms Panel to Review 80:20 Reservation Ratio

ITANAGAR, July 6: 

The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has constituted a high-level committee to examine the feasibility and methodology for abolishing the existing 80:20 reservation ratio in competitive recruitment processes and making PRC and APST certificates mandatory for all such recruitments.

The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Industries, Skill Development, Labour and Employment Minister Nyato Dukam. 

The order was issued by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Training (AR&T) on July 6 with the approval of the competent authority.

The committee comprises the Principal Secretary (PWD/Home), Secretary (Law), Secretary (Personnel), Secretary (SJETA), and the Joint Secretary (AR&T), who will serve as the Member Secretary. 

The President of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), or his representative, will participate in the committee's hearings as a Special Invitee.

As per the terms of reference, the committee will examine the constitutional, legal and administrative aspects of abolishing the 80:20 reservation ratio and introducing mandatory PRC and APST certificates in all competitive recruitment processes.

The panel has also been tasked with studying the applicability of PRC in government services and recruitment, besides reviewing similar systems followed in neighbouring states such as Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur regarding residency requirements and eligibility for government employment.

In addition, the committee will review the recommendations of an earlier High-Level Committee on the issue and consider the opinion and recommendations of the Advocate General on the previous committee's report before submitting its findings.

The committee has been directed to submit its report to the state government within two months.

The move comes amid ongoing public discussions over the state's recruitment policy and is expected to provide recommendations that could shape future recruitment norms in Arunachal Pradesh.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
