AAPSU Urges Recruitment Halt Until 80:20 Report

ITANAGAR, July 11: 

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has urged the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) to keep all recruitment processes on hold until the High-Level Committee reviewing the state's 80:20 recruitment policy submits its final report.

The committee, headed by Minister Nyato Dukam, was constituted by the state government to examine the feasibility of abolishing the existing 80:20 recruitment ratio in Arunachal Pradesh.

Addressing the media, AAPSU President Meje Taku said the issue was originally raised by the students' body to safeguard employment opportunities for the indigenous people of the state. He asserted that the objective of the demand should not be diluted under any circumstances.

Taku further stated that after the TGT examination scheduled on July 12, 2026, no further recruitment examinations should be conducted by the APPSC, APSSB or any concerned department until the committee finalises its recommendations.

AAPSU also reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights of the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh while referring to a recent government notification convening a consultative meeting on a joint memorandum submitted by representatives of the Kachari community.

The memorandum was jointly submitted by the All Arunachal Pradesh Kachari Community Development Council, Sonowal Kachari Jatiya Parishad and the All Arunachal Pradesh Sonowal Kachari Students' Union.

According to the notification, the meeting was scheduled to be held on July 13, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh at the Finance Conference Hall, Block No. 02, Civil Secretariat, Itanagar.

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the proposal for inclusion of the Kachari community residing in Namsai and Changlang districts as a Scheduled Tribe, Sub-Tribe or Plains Tribe in the National Population Census.

AAPSU opposed the proposed meeting, stating that such a move undermines the sentiments of the indigenous people and the efforts of organisations like AAPSU, which it said has been fighting for decades to safeguard indigenous rights in the state.

Speaking on the issue, Meje Taku alleged that political influence could be behind the proposal and claimed that persons holding high offices in the government might be involved.

He warned that if any such involvement is established, AAPSU would launch a democratic movement and demand the removal of those responsible, irrespective of whether they are the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, a Minister, Secretary or any other official.

Meanwhile, as of July 11, 2026, the Arunachal Pradesh Government has cancelled the proposed consultative meeting.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
