AAPSU Leads Major Flood Relief Drive, Supports Affected Families

YAZALI, July 9:

The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has extended major humanitarian assistance to families affected by the recent flash floods through its statewide Flood Relief Outreach Programme.

The initiative was spearheaded by AAPSU President Shri Meje Taku and General Secretary Shri Mato Bui, along with the union's executive members, Branch Students' Unions (BSUs), and District Students' Unions (DSUs), who stood at the forefront of relief efforts during the crisis.

Driven by a strong sense of responsibility, AAPSU voluntarily conducted a two-day statewide donation drive across district headquarters, successfully mobilising over ₹25 lakh in cash assistance. 

In addition to financial aid, the union also provided a truckload of essential relief materials, including food items, vegetables, clothing, drinking water, and other daily necessities for affected families.

AAPSU implemented a structured relief package to ensure direct support reached those most severely impacted:

₹1,00,000 each as ex-gratia assistance to the families of the five flood victims who lost their lives.

₹70,000 each to families whose houses were completely destroyed.

₹50,000 each to families whose homes sustained partial damage.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the verified list of beneficiary families along with the designated financial assistance was formally handed over to ZPC-cum-ZPM of the affected area, Smt. Nabam Piju, for direct distribution.

After completing the allocation for affected families, AAPSU contributed the remaining ₹8,28,660 to the HMLA Relief Care to support wider rehabilitation and recovery efforts.

Expressing his appreciation, MLA Toko Tatung described it as a privilege to meet the leadership of AAPSU, calling the union the apex student organisation and one of Arunachal Pradesh's most influential pressure groups.

He said AAPSU's decision to step forward and lead relief efforts had set a remarkable example for the entire state and the nation, demonstrating that true leadership is defined by service during times of crisis.

"By standing on the frontline to support our people, the student community has shown the strength, compassion, and immense potential of our youth. We extend our deepest gratitude to Team AAPSU for their unwavering support and empathy. Together, we will rebuild, recover, and emerge stronger," Tatung said.

AAPSU also expressed its sincere gratitude to all donors, well-wishers, and every BSU and DSU whose collective efforts made the relief initiative possible, reaffirming its commitment to standing with communities during times of need.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
