Tezu Murder Case Cracked Within 24 Hours, Two Arrested

Tezu, June 11:

What was initially registered as an unnatural death case has now been confirmed as a murder investigation, with Tezu Police successfully arresting two accused persons within 24 hours of recovering the victim's body.

According to official sources, an unidentified male body was discovered inside an RCC bus stand shed near Lohit Agencies Petrol Depot, opposite the main gate of Zonal General Hospital, Tezu, on the morning of June 9. Information regarding the incident was received by Tezu Police at approximately 8:03 a.m., following which a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Ojing Lego and Officer-in-Charge of Tezu Police Station, Inspector J. Aran, immediately proceeded to the scene and initiated legal formalities.

An inquest conducted in the presence of the Executive Magistrate revealed visible injuries on the victim's forehead and the rear portion of the head, along with signs of bleeding, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was subsequently shifted to Zonal General Hospital, Tezu, for post-mortem examination.

Based on the initial findings, Tezu Police registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case under Section 194(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and launched a detailed investigation.

During the course of the inquiry, investigators identified the deceased as Govind Garowal (50), son of Late Bhim Prasad Garowal and a resident of Novojyoti village under Bordumsa Police Station in Assam's Tinsukia district.

To crack the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising DySP Ojing Lego, Inspector J. Aran, Lady Inspector S. Namshoom, Sub-Inspector H. Jugli, and other police personnel was constituted under the close supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Lohit district. The team carried out an intensive investigation using technical surveillance, field intelligence, and other investigative inputs.

The breakthrough came on the evening of June 9 when police arrested the first suspect, Amar Chetry (26), son of Late Jeet Bahadur Chetry. Further investigation led to the arrest of the second accused, Olen Dameng (32), son of Late Sunny Dameng and a resident of Cheta-II in Lower Dibang Valley district, on June 10.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation allegedly broke out between the deceased and the two accused persons. The confrontation reportedly escalated into a violent physical assault during which the victim sustained multiple injuries, including fatal head injuries that ultimately led to his death.

Following the emergence of substantial evidence indicating the commission of a cognizable offence, police converted the UD case into a regular criminal case under Sections 105 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to culpable homicide amounting to murder committed with common intention.

After completion of the post-mortem examination, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members for the last rites.

Police have confirmed that further investigation is in progress to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident and to complete the legal proceedings against the accused persons.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S.
