CM Pema Khandu Joins Mass Rhododendron Plantation Drive in Tawang

Tawang, June 22: 

A Mass Rhododendron Plantation Drive was conducted in Tawang on Monday, continuing the momentum generated during the World Environment Day celebrations on June 5. The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation and expand the region’s rich rhododendron cover, which forms an important part of Tawang’s unique Himalayan ecosystem.

Participating in the plantation drive, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted the ecological significance of rhododendrons and emphasized the collective responsibility of protecting and enhancing the region’s natural heritage.

"Tawang is blessed with one of the richest diversities of rhododendrons in the Himalayas, making it our collective responsibility to protect and expand this extraordinary natural wealth," the Chief Minister said.

Underscoring the long-term benefits of afforestation, Khandu added, "Every sapling we plant today strengthens our forests, protects our mountains, preserves biodiversity, and leaves a richer natural heritage for the next generation."

The plantation programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, personnel, and volunteers. The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the Tawang Forest Division and the Indian Army for jointly organizing the initiative and acknowledged the energetic involvement of NCC cadets, whose participation added momentum to the conservation campaign.

The drive reflects the state government's continued commitment towards environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region. 

By encouraging community participation in afforestation activities, the initiative seeks to strengthen forest cover and safeguard Tawang’s rich natural resources for future generations.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
