AIFF Approves Proposal to Rename Itself as Football Federation of Bharat

New Delhi, June 20:

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has approved a proposal to change its name to the Football Federation of Bharat (FFB) during a Special General Body Meeting (SGBM) held on June 20, 2026. The decision marks a significant step toward rebranding the country's football governing body, although the name change is not yet official and remains subject to further approvals.

During the meeting, AIFF members unanimously agreed to forward the proposal to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for consideration. The federation clarified that the proposed change will only come into effect after receiving approval from the Sports Ministry and may also require acceptance from international football governing bodies, including FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

If the proposal receives all necessary clearances, the organization currently known as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will officially be renamed the Football Federation of Bharat (FFB). Supporters of the move believe the new name reflects a stronger national identity while aligning with the growing use of “Bharat” in official and public institutions.

Apart from the proposed name change, the Special General Body Meeting also deliberated on several football governance reforms aimed at strengthening the administration and development of the sport in the country. 

Discussions further focused on preparations for the upcoming Indian football season, competition structures, and measures to enhance the overall growth of football across India.

For now, the federation will continue to operate under the AIFF name until all required approvals are obtained. The proposal's final outcome will depend on decisions taken by the Government of India and relevant international football authorities in the coming months.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
