Tawang Police Arrest Two Accused in Separate Fraud Cases with Assam Police Support

TAWANG July 5: 

Tawang Police, with the active assistance of Assam Police, has successfully apprehended two accused persons in separate criminal cases involving alleged cheating, criminal breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds, marking significant progress in both investigations.

The first case stems from an FIR lodged on May 25, 2026, by Garib Nath Raut, Manager of Sela Distributors, a wholesale distributor of IMFL and beer located at Old Market, Tawang, against Lakhya Jyoti Boruah, a resident of Soniya Gaon under Nowboicha Police Station in Assam's North Lakhimpur district.

According to the complaint, Boruah, who was employed as the manager of the firm, had been entrusted with sales, marketing, procurement, stock management, account maintenance, and overall business operations. 

During an audit conducted on May 1, 2026, major discrepancies were detected in the accounts, stock records, and physical inventory, allegedly revealing a misappropriation of nearly ₹90 lakh. The accused had reportedly been absconding since March 25, 2026.

Based on the complaint, Tawang Police registered a case under Sections 316(2), 318(3), and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with the investigation entrusted to Inspector Niyi Angu, Officer-in-Charge of Tawang Police Station.

Under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tasi Darang, Tawang Police coordinated with Lakhimpur Police in Assam. A police team led by Inspector Niyi Angu, along with Head Constable Lobsang Tashi, Constable D.W. Thungon, and Constable (D) Rinchin Tsering, successfully apprehended the absconding accused on July 4, 2026, with assistance from Assam Police.

In the second case, an FIR was registered on May 12, 2026, following a complaint filed by Sonam Tsering of Kharteng Village against Madhab Das (31) of Manujuli Gaon, Dekiajuli, Sonitpur district, Assam.

The complainant alleged that Das had accepted an advance payment of ₹2.20 lakh for the supply of furniture but failed to deliver the goods and later refused to honour the agreement.

Tawang Police registered the case under Sections 318(4) and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the investigation, the Hon'ble Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tawang, issued a bailable warrant against the accused.

Following the court's order, SP Tasi Darang sought assistance from the Additional Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur district. On July 4, 2026, a Tawang Police team comprising SI Lham Thinley, Constable Taya Tutum, and Constable (D) Tenzin Namgey executed the warrant with the support of Assam Police. 

Necessary legal formalities, including recording of statements, were completed, bringing the investigation to its conclusion.

SP Tasi Darang expressed his appreciation to the police teams of Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts for their prompt cooperation and professional assistance. 

He stated that such coordinated inter-state operations strengthen law enforcement and further reinforce the cordial working relationship between Arunachal Pradesh Police and Assam Police in ensuring effective policing.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
