IMD Warns of Heavy Rain in Four Arunachal Districts

ITANAGAR, July 6: 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre, Itanagar, has issued an Impact-Based Weather Forecast warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Arunachal Pradesh for the next two days. 

The advisory, issued at 1:00 PM on Monday, warns that isolated areas in Namsai, Lohit, Longding, and Tirap districts are likely to experience intense rainfall, prompting residents and authorities to remain on alert.

According to the forecast, Namsai district is expected to receive heavy rainfall (6–11 cm in 24 hours) along with thunderstorms and lightning between July 7 and July 8, while Lohit district is likely to witness very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm in 24 hours) during the same period.

For the following day, July 8 to July 9, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall (6–11 cm in 24 hours) accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in Namsai and Longding districts. Tirap district, meanwhile, is expected to receive very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm in 24 hours) during the period.

The weather office has cautioned that the forecast conditions may lead to localized flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, landslides in vulnerable locations, reduced visibility, traffic disruptions, and lightning-related incidents. 

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from rivers and landslide-prone areas, and follow weather updates and advisories issued by the district administrations and disaster management authorities.

Authorities are expected to closely monitor the evolving weather situation and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize risks and ensure public safety.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
