Home Minister Mama Natung Bids Farewell to Officer Couple

ITANAGAR, July 16:

Home Minister Mama Natung received a courtesy call from Shri Angad Mehta, IPS, and Smt. Shweta Nagarkoti, IAS, as the officer couple prepares to assume their new administrative responsibilities in New Delhi.

During the meeting, the Home Minister lauded their exemplary service in Keyi Panyor district, where Angad Mehta served as Superintendent of Police (SP) and Shweta Nagarkoti served as Deputy Commissioner (DC). 

He wished both officers continued success, fulfillment, and distinction in their new assignments.

Shweta Nagarkoti, a 2020-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, played a key role in leading relief and rehabilitation efforts during the recent monsoon cloudbursts in Keyi Panyor. 

Along with her husband, IPS officer Angad Mehta, a 2020-batch AGMUT cadre officer recruited through the UPSC Civil Services Examination, she personally supervised on-ground damage assessments and coordinated relief operations at severely affected landslide sites, including Tajgi, Pitapool, and Possa village.

She also worked closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs' Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), facilitating assessments that helped secure critical funding for the restoration of damaged infrastructure in the district.

During her tenure as Deputy Commissioner, Shweta Nagarkoti introduced several governance and education reforms. 

In July 2025, she launched the Deputy Commissioner Fellowship (DCF) Programme, an initiative aimed at engaging young professionals to support data-driven governance and grassroots administrative reforms.

Under her leadership, the district administration also conducted surprise inspections of government schools to address inflated student enrolment records and teacher absenteeism. 

The drive resulted in the issuance of more than 35 show-cause notices, improvements in school infrastructure, and the timely resolution of textbook shortages across the district.

She further introduced the Vision Board Initiative in 19 of the district's 26 schools, encouraging students to display their career aspirations while recognising local achievers through dedicated "Wall of Fame" displays.

Commending the officer couple for their dedicated public service, Home Minister Mama Natung said their contributions to the development and administration of Keyi Panyor district have been truly commendable. 

He extended his best wishes for their journey ahead, expressing confidence that they would continue serving the nation with the same dedication and excellence in their new roles.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
