ACC&I Takes Over IMWA Following Court Order

ITANAGAR, July 10: 

The Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACC&I) has officially taken over the administration of the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) following an order issued by the Civil Judge (Junior Division), Yupia, in Case No. 27/26 under Title Suit No. 15/26 dated June 25, 2026.

Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club on Friday, ACC&I President Dr. Tarh Nachung said the chamber had complied with the court's directive and assumed charge of IMWA's affairs pending the final disposal of the title suit.

Invoking the powers vested in the ACC&I President, Dr. Nachung announced the appointment of Azad Bagang as President and Biri Kame as Secretary General to oversee the administration and day-to-day functioning of IMWA with immediate effect until the court delivers its final verdict.

He also directed the newly appointed leadership to constitute a sub-executive committee to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the market body during the interim period.

ACC&I legal advisor Advocate Tarh Loma said the court had suspended the powers and functions of the existing IMWA executive committee. He informed that the title suit was filed by Lindum Tarium and was heard on June 25 by counsel P. Talik.

Explaining the court's observations, Loma said a prima facie case had been established regarding the apparent illegality of the continuation of Respondent/Defendant Nos. 3 and 4 in office, along with the alleged infringement of the petitioner's civil rights. 

He added that the previous executive members had already completed their tenure under both the original and revised bylaws.

According to the petitioner, the former executive committee continued in office for four years, four months and eight days, exceeding the three-year tenure prescribed under the original IMWA bylaws.

Meanwhile, after assuming charge, the newly appointed IMWA executive committee announced a blanket ban on the collection of donations from the business community across the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

The committee stated that any union, association or organisation intending to seek grants-in-aid or donations from traders and business establishments must first obtain prior approval from the IMWA executive committee. 

The move, it said, is aimed at preventing unauthorised fundraising and protecting the interests of the business community.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
