Lower Siang Police, School Authorities Hold Coordination Meeting on Student Safety

In a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing student safety and strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and law enforcement agencies, a coordination meeting was convened by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Lower Siang District, at the SP Office in Likabali on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by Principals, Headmasters, Headmistresses, and Wardens from various schools across Likabali. Also present were the Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), Officer-in-Charge of Likabali Police Station, Reserve Inspector, and the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Likabali.

During the interaction, the SP held detailed discussions with school authorities on a range of issues affecting students and educational environments. Key topics included student safety and security, discipline, prevention of drug abuse, cybercrime awareness, implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, bullying, ragging, and the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive learning atmosphere in schools.

Emphasizing the growing challenges faced by students in today's rapidly evolving social and digital landscape, the SP stressed the need for conducting regular awareness programmes on drug abuse, cyber safety, traffic regulations, juvenile delinquency, and other issues that directly impact young minds. He highlighted the critical role educational institutions play in shaping responsible citizens and safeguarding students from harmful influences.

The SP further underscored the importance of close coordination between schools and the police department to effectively address emerging concerns and ensure the overall well-being of students. School authorities were encouraged to promptly report incidents or concerns related to student safety, substance abuse, bullying, ragging, cybercrime, or any other unlawful activities so that timely intervention could be undertaken.

During the meeting, the Principals, Headmasters, Headmistresses, and Wardens shared their views, experiences, and concerns regarding student welfare and campus security. Constructive discussions were held on various measures to strengthen cooperation between schools and law enforcement agencies, with participants offering suggestions aimed at creating safer educational spaces.

The meeting concluded on a positive note with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to working collectively towards fostering a secure, supportive, and student-friendly environment across educational institutions in Lower Siang District. 

The initiative reflects the shared resolve of the police administration and school authorities to ensure the holistic development, safety, and welfare of students throughout the district.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.
