Capital Police Refutes Claims in Gumin Mize Arrest Case

Capital Police has clarified that allegations circulated through social media platforms, press statements and public briefings following the arrest of Shri Gumin Mize have been found to be baseless after a detailed departmental inquiry.

Shri Gumin Mize was arrested on May 20, 2026, at Police Station Itanagar in connection with Bihpuria Police Station Case No. 72/2026 registered under Sections 329(1), 329(2), 117(1), 117(2), 109, 312, 324, 70 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 27(1) and 27(2) of the Arms Act. Following the arrest, several allegations surfaced through social media posts and public statements. These included claims that the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Police Station Itanagar had instructed an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Lakhimpur to assault Mize while he was in Assam Police custody, that his vehicle had been transported from Itanagar to Bihpuria by personnel from Police Station Itanagar, and that his arms licence had been deliberately concealed or withheld by Itanagar Police.

Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Capital, ordered a detailed inquiry through an order issued on May 26. The inquiry involved examination of witnesses, scrutiny of CCTV footage, review of digital evidence and verification of other technical and documentary records. According to the findings, none of the allegations against the Officer-in-Charge, Police Station Itanagar, the station staff or any other Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel could be substantiated. The inquiry concluded that the allegations were incorrect and without factual basis.

Capital Police further stated that Shri Gumin Mize was personally briefed by the SP Capital on the findings of the inquiry on Wednesday. During the meeting, the relevant evidence and conclusions of the investigation were shared with him. Police said Mize appeared satisfied with the outcome of the inquiry and was advised to ensure that any action against drug-related or other unlawful activities is undertaken strictly in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Social Media Monitoring Team of Capital Police has detected several threatening posts and comments circulating through Facebook and WhatsApp groups. According to police, individuals operating fake social media accounts allegedly issued threats to attack Police Station Itanagar, target the Officer-in-Charge, set fire to his residence, assault him and his family members, and, in some cases, issued direct and indirect death threats.

Police described such threats as unlawful and said they create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation for serving officers and their families. Emphasizing that family members have no role in official police actions, Capital Police stated that they should not be subjected to harassment, intimidation or threats under any circumstances.

Authorities said the fake accounts used to issue the threats have been identified and the individuals operating them have been traced. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those involved, and details of the action taken will be made public in due course.

Capital Police has appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and refrain from spreading unverified allegations, threats or inflammatory content on social media. The department reiterated that any wrongdoing, whether by police personnel or members of the public, will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

Three Held for Mithun Theft in East Siang

  PASIGHAT, July 17:  In a successful joint operation, Mebo Police and Pasighat Police, with active support from the Mithun Owners Association, arrested three persons for allegedly stealing and illegally transporting a mithun.  The stolen animal was successfully recovered. The accused have been identified as Philip Lego (28) of Ayeng Village under Mebo Police Station, Kanggong Lego (19) of Ayeng Village, and Nandu Nath (22), a driver from Chumoni Village in Assam's North Lakhimpur district. According to police, the accused allegedly stole the mithun from the Partung area and were transporting it towards the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).  Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle carrying the stolen animal at the Gumto Police Check Gate, leading to the recovery of the mithun and the arrest of all three accused. Dr. Lige Basar, Three Others Killed in Assam Crash

  Khetri/Itanagar, May 29:  A tragic road accident in Assam's Khetri area on Friday claimed the lives of four people from Arunachal Pradesh, including a senior veterinary officer, his wife, and two medical students, triggering widespread condolences across the state. The deceased have been identified as Dr. Lige Basar, Veterinary Officer of Keyi Panyor district and president of the Basar Aao Welfare Association (BAWA), his wife Kunga Doima Basar, their son Gemar Basar, and Karma S. Khirmey, Gemar's friend and fellow MBBS student. According to traffic officials, the accident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and noon when the Mahindra Bolero (AR-01Q-0042) in which they were travelling reportedly collided with a truck parked along National Highway 27 in Assam's Khetri area.
